Guiding Principles of the Brookings Police Department
The men and women of the Brookings Police Department are responsible
for providing law enforcement services to the citizens of Brookings.
As a police agency, we are committed to serving our community according
to our guiding principles of service with PRIDE, PRIDE in ourselves,
PRIDE in our department, and PRIDE in our community. We define PRIDE
as:
P – Professionalism: To provide the highest
degree of service to our citizens and our community by conducting
ourselves in a manner commensurate with our ability and commitment
to fulfilling the obligations we have chosen to accept as members
of the Brookings Police Department.
R – Respect: To treat each individual we
meet during the course of our duties in a courteous, fair, and professional
manner irrespective of the circumstances.
I – Integrity: To adhere to a code of conduct
which reflects our moral and ethical responsibilities, our honesty,
and our dedication to service, while holding ourselves and our peers
accountable for our actions.
D – Dedication: Our unfailing sense of duty
to provide protection and service to the citizens we serve and to
put the needs of our citizens first, regardless of the personal
sacrifices we must endure.
E – Ethics: To instill in ourselves and
our fellow officers those morals, values and principles which will
inspire each of us to a higher sense of duty, one that is above
question or reproach.
By utilizing these guiding principles as a framework for providing
police services to our community, and committing ourselves to serve
with PRIDE, the men and women of the Brookings Police Department
will provide consistent police service that is responsive and sensitive
to the needs of the community.
